The Dragonfly for New York City (Vincent Callebaut, 2011)
The 600 m high vertical farm building was planned to New York City’s Roosevelt Island. It could contain 28 different farms from vegetables, fruit and others. The building would be self-sufficient because of the solar panels and wind power.

The structure would also harvest and purify rain water to be used on site, ventilate different sectors of the gardens via hot air convection passageways, and capture carbon dioxide from the surrounding air to transform it through photosynthetic processes.

For the 8th Chinese Flower Expo in Wujin, China, Lab Architecture Studio designed two pavilions to honor the event, the Art Exhibition Pavilion and the Science Exhibition Pavilion. This winning design explores the relationship between the water and the petal and expressing the tension found between the Natural landscape and the iconic culture body. The ecological building design draws upon the natural geographical features and also promotes sustainability and the natural ecology.

"Didn’t you know that the stars love and hate, that a nova is a passion, and that a dead star is just like a dead human or a dead machine? The trees have their lusts, and I have heard the drunken laughter of buildings, the urgent demands of highways…"

The age of green is upon us. We have reached a point in our human evolution where science, math, and creative genius have discovered a way to suspend a living forest in mid air. The answer to city pollution is now Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale, the world’s first 27-story microclimate apartment towers currently under construction in Milan, Italy. Built to function as city air purifiers, these lush apartments will include over 900 trees, 5,000 bushes, and 11,000 plants throughout the tower balconies. Each perch of life will aid in reducing city noise, moderating atmospheric temperatures, absorbing CO2 emissions, and acting as an energy sustainer for seasonal weather shifts. Read more: http://genyhub.com/page/the-vertical-forest#ixzz2Qg4ONZSa
